Title: God Confidence
(S) cripture:
1 Samuel 17:34-37 (NLT2) But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, 35 I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. 36 I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God! 37 The LORD who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!” Saul finally consented. “All right, go ahead,” he said. “And may the LORD be with you!”
(O) bservation:
David’s confidence in God’s power and protection enabled him to face Goliath unafraid. Later in the story we are told that David ran toward Goliath.
(A) pplication:
I often wonder how much is left unaccomplished because of a faulty view of God’s power and protection. We often keep quiet when we should speak or hesitate when we should act and move forward. We can offer all kinds of explanations or excuses by the reality is that we do not have confidence in God’s power and protection. Now we would never say that out loud but we declare it clearly in the way we live. Today I want to have confidence in God’s power and experience it in the way I live and follow Him.
(P) rayer:
Lord, I know you are all powerful and protect your children. I have seen these in my own life. Today let me grow in my confidence in you. Grant me the confidence to face the bears, lions and giants that come my way. Amen
