Title: Praying A Blessing Over People

(S) cripture:
    Numbers 6:22-27 (NLT2) Then the LORD said to Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing: 24 ‘May the LORD bless you and protect you. 25 May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you. 26 May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace.’ 27 Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.”

(O) bservation:
    The Lord then had Moses to tell Aaron to give a special blessing to the people. There is then this provision for the Lord: Whenever Aaron and his sons would bless the people in the Lord’s name the Lord would also bless them.

(A) pplication:
    As a pastor I should take time to offer a blessing on the people in the Lord’s name. We have special services during the year when families can come and have a pastor pray over them. I think that is a mirror of what is being communicated in this passage. It is important for pastors to take time and pray over the people. Many do this at the end of each service as a benediction, but I wonder if something deeper is being suggested here. Today I will take the opportunity to pray a blessing over people so they can be reminded of God’s love and blessing in their lives.

(P) rayer:
    Lord, Thank you for the reminder of this important role for me as part of my call to pastoral ministry. Give me wisdom to pray rightly over people. Amen
