Title: Who Will You Serve

(S) cripture:
    Joshua 24:14-15 (NLT2) “So fear the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD alone. 15 But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.”

(O) bservation:
    In his last address to the people Joshua challenges them to serve the Lord. He acknowledges the choice before them. They can choose to serve the gods of their ancestors in Egypt of the gods of the people around them or they can serve the Lord God. Joshua challenges and encourages them to serve the Lord and not to fall prey to the worship of other gods. The then makes the declaration for his household. Regardless of what others choose, he and his household will choose to serve the Lord.

(A) pplication:
    There are many things (gods) clamoring for our attention and worship. All around us we are being encouraged to divert our worship away from the Lord and onto other things. To serve the Lord is a daily choice that we each must make. To put away idols and other gods is also a choice we make. We cannot worship both, we must choose. Today I choose to follow and serve the Lord.

(P) rayer:
    Father, make me aware when my attention and devotion are being diverted. Forgive me when I stray. Today I choose to follow and serve you. Amen
