Title: Bad Theology

(S) cripture:
    Job 8:1-7 (NLT2) Then Bildad the Shuhite replied to Job: 2 “How long will you go on like this? You sound like a blustering wind. 3 Does God twist justice? Does the Almighty twist what is right? 4 Your children must have sinned against him, so their punishment was well deserved. 5 But if you pray to God and seek the favor of the Almighty, 6 and if you are pure and live with integrity, he will surely rise up and restore your happy home. 7 And though you started with little, you will end with much.

(O) bservation:
    Bildad’s view of God (theology) was faulty but consistent with what others of the day thought. They believed that God’s blessing was dependent on a person’s behavior. He blesses if I am “good” and punishes if I am bad.

(A) pplication:
    This same bad theology is rampant today. Many have believed the “health and wealth” and “name it – claim it” gospel preached by many. Its roots are in the same bad theology that Bildad preached to Job. The truth is that God’s blessing comes from His grace and is a gift to those that follow him by faith in Jesus. Our culture, and sadly many Christians, define blessing only in terms that bring success, pleasure and prosperity. The blessing of God is far different. The blessing of God is a clear, confident and content heart regardless of our circumstances. God’s blessing is experienced as I walk by faith in the power of the Holy Spirit. Today I choose to walk with the Lord wherever He leads and that is blessing enough for me.

(P) rayer:
    Lord continually teach me to trust and walk with you. Teach me that your presence and guidance in my life is blessing enough. When I begin to believe the lie draw me back to You and the truth. Amen
