Title: A Father’s Influence

(S) cripture:
1 Kings 22:43 (NASB) He walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing right in the sight of the LORD. However, the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places.

(O) bservation:
Father’s Day is this coming Sunday and that makes reading this passage today very interesting. Jehoshaphat walked in the ways of his father, Asa. What a gift to have a father that walks after God. I think of my own father and grandfather and the example they set for me. It was an example of faithfulness. Each had their flaws but their example was one that followed Christ.

(A) pplication:
I have sought to be that kind of father. I have prayed that and now witness our daughters following you, and their families too. I want my example to be pleasing to you and have an impact on my grandchildren too.

(P) rayer:
Father, I thank you for the father and grandfather you gave me and for the time I had with them. I was fortunate to watch as they modeled what a Godly man could be. It was an example I have tried to follow and to set for my children and grandchildren. I want my life to honor them by honoring you first. Amen
