Title: Wisdom in Action
(S) cripture:
Matthew 11:16-19 (NASB77) “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places, who call out to the other children, 17 and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’ 18 “For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘ He has a demon!’ 19 “The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
(O) bservation:
There are many that claim to be wise but are proved foolish by their actions. There are others that seem foolish, but their actions prove them to be wise. Jesus compares the judgment of those that rejected John and Himself to children sitting at a mall making fun of people. Their lack of wisdom is seen in how they act. True wisdom, that which comes from God, will be seen and proven right by our actions.
(A) pplication:
Lord, Your word is clear and not hard to understand but is difficult to carry out. Let me live out your wisdom and commands today. You have commanded that we love you with all that we are and others as ourselves. Let me live that way today and every day and thus prove to be wise.
(P) rayer:
Father, today my prayer echoes that of the psalmist when he prayed, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14 (NASB77) and Lord I would add, my actions, too. Amen
