Title: Friendship
(S) cripture:
1 Samuel 18:1 (NASB77) Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself.
(O) bservation:
The friendship between David and Jonathan described here remained over the years. Their loyalty to each other is seen throughout David’s life. Their closeness is described as having their souls knit together.
(A) pplication:
As I think about this, I am reminded of just how important deep friendship is. To have one who loves you and is knit to your soul is life giving and sustaining. That is not to suggest that my relationship with the Lord is any less life giving or sustaining. It is to mean how valuable it is to have a friend who knows you and loves you and wants God’s best for you. One that will challenge and confront and correct you when you are headed in a wrong direction. One that will lift and encourage and stand with you in times of distress and trouble. For many that friend is our spouse and that is true for me. Becky is that kind of friend and soulmate to me and I thank God for her every day. There are others that speak to my life and are friends like this. They are the ones that even though we may not see each other often when we get together it is like we pick up mid-sentence where we left off at our last time together. I thank God for those friends that I can count on whatever the circumstance. They know who they are. Today I am reminded how blessed I am to have friends with whom my soul is knit together. I want to be the same kind of friend to them.
(P) rayer:
Father, thank you for bringing to my life these kinds of friends. As we walk together with you let me be that kind of friend to them. Allow my life to touch others like my life has been touched. Amen
