Title: Generosity

(S) cripture:
2 Corinthians 8:1-3 (NASB77) Now, brethren, we wish to make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia, 2 that in a great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the wealth of their liberality. 3 For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability they gave of their own accord,

(O) bservation:
Paul is commenting on the generosity of the churches in Macedonia. In tough economic times they gave liberally. What a testimony to God’s provision for them and their understanding of that provision

(A) pplication:
The covid-19 pandemic has taken its toll on our lives, emotional health and economy here in West Virginia and around the world for that matter. These factors have contributed to many churches facing financial trouble. The people of New Baptist Church are living out this scripture. They may not recognize it but that is what’s happening. Out of much affliction generosity continues to come. The Food Pantry continues to feed hungry people and has set records in the number of families served almost on a weekly basis. People continue to give to the work of the church even though we are not meeting together. We continue to look to ways to connect and to worship together even though it is virtually. I am so pleased to be on the staff of this church. Today I simply rejoice and thank God for calling me here to serve Him with this congregation. Today I will seek to be generous and to serve out of the abundance of grace that God has showered on me.

(P) rayer:
Father, Thank You for allowing me to be part of this church. Thank You for working in the hearts of the people so that they trust you for the very issues of life. Thank you for a church family that gives financially to your work here in Huntington and around the world. Help me to set a faithful example as I help lead this church to follow You. Amen
