Title: Avoiding Deception
(S) cripture:
Deuteronomy 13:1-4 (NASB77) ” If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, 2 and the sign or the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, ‘ Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them,’ 3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God is testing you to find out if you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 ” You shall follow the LORD your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him.
(O) bservation:
There are those who come proclaiming to be from God but are not. They deceive many by their great speech and personality. As the people of God, we are not to listen or follow them because they lead away from following the Lord. We are to love God with all we are and to listen and to obey his commands alone.
(A) pplication:
When asked about the greatest commandment Jesus tells the people the same thing. We are to love God with all we have and are and our neighbors as ourselves. Sadly there are preachers and a theology (health and wealth, name it – claim it, or legalism) being preached that lead people away from the truth. I want my preaching and teaching to be so grounded and true to God’s Word that people are pointed to Him and not led astray. I want to Love God with all that I have and am and to listen and obey only Him.
(P) rayer:
Father I want to live a life true to You and Your Word. I want my teaching and preaching to point people to you. Grant me wisdom and knowledge to preach and teach that way. Make me keenly aware when I am not being true to your word. Amen
